El análisis laboratorial de una muestra del derrame nos permitirá determinar la causa del mismo, así como desarrollar el plan terapéutico más adecuado.

Antes de abordar los análisis más adecuados, hemos de tener en cuenta los tipos de derrame que nos podemos encontrar en el espacio pleural:

#[[Chylous Effusion|Chyle]]
Los parámetros a determinar en una muestra de derrame son: COLOR-CANTIDAD DE PROTEINAS-CONTAJE CELULAR-CITOLOGÍA (evaluación de la forma celular predominante).
